If you want to enjoy the true Venetian atmosphere, you should definitely visit the Rialto Market, one of the oldest markets in Venice; it hosts the traditional fish market and the fruit and vegetable market.

– Fish market: Tuesday to Saturday, from 7:30 to 12:00.

– Fruit and vegetable market: Monday to Saturday, from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm.

The Magic of Equilibria

The 416 bridges that cross the network of canals in every point of the city, are different in type, shape and size. Originally, all the bridges were built with wooden planks and were flat in order to allow the passage of chariots and horses.

Acqua Alta Library

The Libreria Acqua Alta is located in a particular corner of Venice, far from the largest flow of, but at the same time it is located close to one of the most beautiful churches in Venice: the Church of Santa Maria Formosa. It is one of the most characteristic bookstores in the world. Surely, this is the only bookshop where you will find new and used books arranged on shelves formed by boats, gondolas, canoes and tanks. A must-see attraction.

The Narrowest Street in Venice

After admiring the Rialto Bridge and its mesmerising view, it’s time to venture into the secret areas of Venice less frequented by tourists. You could get lost in the calles of Venice and go in search of the less-known peculiarities of the city which are hard but not impossible to find. For example, you could walk from the Church of Sanata Maria dei Miracoli towards Fondamente Nove, halfway there, you should find Calle Varisco. Walk though it until the end to see how the widest point is only 50 centimeters!

House with 3 sides on the Water

From Campo Santi Giovanni e Paolo you can walk until you reach Rio Santa Marina. At the fork of Rio Santa Marina, in Rio Tetta and Rio di San Giovanni Laterano, you will find yourself in front of a painting. A wrought iron bridge hides the view of the only house in Venice with 3 sides facing water. The owners access this house only through a gate near the Ponte Tetta.

Scala del Bovolo and Palazzo Contarini

Its full name is Scala Contarini del Bovolo, and it is the most famous spiral staircase in Venice, adjacent to the palace that gives it its name. Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo is a magnificent example of Venetian Gothic architecture, and is located in the San Marco district. You have to look for it to find it, because it is difficult to pass in front of it as it is a building set in a dead end.

Peggy Guggenheim Museum

Located in the heart of the Dorsoduro district, the Peggy Guggenheim Museum is one of the most evocative sestieri of the city and a landmark not to be missed by art-lovers. There you can admire the “real Venice” with many restaurants, shops, craft boutiques whilst also exploring one of the most important museums in Italy dedicated to European and American art from the twentieth century.

Squero of San Travaso

The Venetian term “Squero” indicates a shipyard, a place where the shape, body and soul of the gondola, a characteristic Venetian boat, is born.
